Welcome to the Art department. Art courses: Studio Art 1 Grades: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Studio/Hands-On Projects: Pottery, Painting, Fiber, Design & Drawing are some of the projects covered. Students will work with a variety of different art materials and techniques to make a portfolio of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art works. Semester 1 focuses on basic skills and learning to apply the elements and principals of art. Semester 2 focuses more on applying what you've learned in more three-dimensional projects. Students will also develop an appreciation for artwork of the past and present through discussions and written work. This course is designed as a beginning art class for students wishing to pursue upper level art courses as well as for those who wish to satisfy their Fine Arts requirement for graduation.
Studio Art 2
(Advanced Art) Studio/Hands-On Projects: More complex Pottery, Painting, Fiber, Design & Drawing will be created to explore new techniques and materials. Students will work with special materials to create original works of art in the form of drawing, painting, design, and fiber while exploring different two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums. This course goes beyond the basics and puts the Elements and Principals of Art to use in more complex projects than those in Studio Art 1. Students will also work on their appreciation and art criticism of artwork of the past and present through discussions and study and preparing works of art for display and exhibition. This course is designed as the next step in a building block for students wishing to pursue upper level art courses and will also satisfy their Fine Art requirement or Elective for graduation.
Studio Art 3
(Advanced Art) Studio/Hands-On Projects: Pottery, Painting, Fiber, Design & Drawing will be created as students continue learning varied materials and techniques from prior classes. Students will focus more on more professional art materials to create original works of art in the form of drawing, painting, design, and fiber while exploring different two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums. This course goes beyond the basics and puts the Elements and Principals of Art to use in more complex projects than those in Studio Art 1. Students will also work on their appreciation and art criticism of artwork of the past and present through discussions and study and preparing works of art for display and exhibition. This course is designed for the more serious art student in mind and as the next course for students wishing to explore art as a career or for a part-time hobby. This course can satisfy their Fine Art requirement or Elective for graduation. Studio Art 4 (Advanced
Art) Studio/Hands-On Projects: Pottery, Painting, Fiber, Design & Drawing will be created as students work more independently to put the techniques they continue to learn with various materials. Students will focus more on more professional art projects such as pottery, painting, color drawing, design, fiber, etc. The length of the projects vary because of their complicated technique. Display, exhibit, and competition will play a role with the Art 4 class. This course is designed for the more serious art student in mind and as the next course for students wishing to explore art as a career or for a part-time hobby. Students who are considering a career in art should take this class to build their portfolio. This course can satisfy their Fine Art requirement or Elective for graduation.
Art Appreciation
& Creation Students will study about Art History and Art Criticism by seeing artworks, artists, and different cultures of the past and present in our Art History books, online, and through video. Students will discuss and write about these art styles make their own critiques. Some hands-on projects and worksheets will also be done to help students appreciate the time, material, and efforts of these past and present works. This course can satisfy their Fine Art requirement for graduation.
High School Arts
& Crafts Students will work with a variety of different art forms (drawing, painting, pottery, design, and fiber) to create original works of art while learning to use a variety of art materials and tools.. Students will also develop an appreciation for artwork of the past and present through discussions and written work. This course is designed for those who wish to satisfy their Fine Arts requirement for graduation.
Digital Photography
& Design
Students will learn basic digital photography and photo editing techniques along with the basic computer skills necessary to edit, save, transfer, and store their digital images. The majority of photographs will be taken at home and then be brought on their memory card or flash drive. Students will learn basic Elements and Principles to create posters, signs, photographic art, and to prepare for display. Students will need their own camera, memory card and flash drive and access at home to a computer to transfer their data to their memory card or flash drive. This course is designed for those who wish to satisfy their Fine Arts requirement for graduation and who want to learn more about digital photography. |
